But I&#8217;ve been in the EV world too long to believe we&#8217;re done with these shenanigans yet. The latest example &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chryslergroupllc.com\/\">Chrysler<\/a>, which this year <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblog.com\/23880\/ieee-usa-commends-does-2-4-billion-grants-to-accelerate-development-of-electric-vehicles\/\">took $70 million<\/a> in U.S. Department of Energy money to electrify some of its vehicles and used promises of launching a whole slate of electric vehicles to win $12.5 billion in federal aid. Now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/GCA-GreenBusiness\/idUSTRE5A605N20091107\">Reuters reports<\/a> that Chrysler has disma<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"asset asset-image at-xid-6a0120a635cd9d970c0120a66cd801970b  alignright\" style=\"width: 176px; height: 180px;\" title=\"Comedy_and_tragedy_masks-II\" src=\"https:\/\/pluginamerica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/6a0120a635cd9d970c0120a66cd801970b-800wi.png\" alt=\"Comedy_and_tragedy_masks-II\" border=\"0\" \/>ntled its electric vehicle (EV) program team and folded it into its conventional internal combustion engine vehicles departments.<\/p>\n<p>Dear President Obama: Can we get our money back from Chrysler, please?<\/p>\n<p>But I am encouraged by continuing signs of strong consumer enthusiasm for electric vehicles. In a grassroots gathering of people who have leased the electric <a href=\"http:\/\/www.miniusa.com\/crm\/no_flash.jsp\">BMW Mini E<\/a> &#8212; none of whom had owned an EV before &#8212; they all told <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.insideline.com\/roadtests\/2009\/11\/2009-mini-e-141-miles-rusty-rotors-happy-drivers.html\">Edmunds Green Car Advisor John O&#8217;Dell<\/a> that they&#8217;re having great fun with the car and would buy it in a nanosecond if the Mini E was for sale.<\/p>\n<p>When the new, more affordable electric cars and plug-in hybrids hit the market in 2010 (the GM Volt, the Nissan LEAF, and the Fisker Karma), it&#8217;s going to be up to the likes of you and me to show the world that they&#8217;re the companies we&#8217;re interested in, not companies that back away from the electrification of transportation.<\/p>\n<p>Posted by Sherry Boschert, Plug In America board member and author, <em>Plug-in Hybrids: The Cars That Will Recharge America<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I could have hoped that we were beyond the time when car companies would say they love electric vehicles and then turn around moon us.
