We are thrilled to announce that the Scottsdale City Council voted last week to update their building codes with EV charging requirements for new construction. PIA Board Member Raejean Fellows gave passionate testimony<\/a> at the City Council meeting (her testimony begins at 1 hour, 2 minutes), pointing out the many financial benefits of EV driving that are denied to residents of multi-family housing. \u201cIf you live in an apartment or condo in Scottsdale,\u201d she told the Council, \u201cyou very likely have zero ability to charge your EV near your home. So removing this obstacle, by ensuring that a minimum amount of charging infrastructure is installed at construction, at apartments and condos, is a simple but vital action.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

This success resulted from the concerted efforts of many EV advocates working together in Scottsdale. John Martinson, president of Scottsdale Electric Vehicle Association, was among those lending their expertise at last week\u2019s council meeting. John is a 20 year veteran of driving electric.<\/p>\n

Scottsdale is now the fifth city in Arizona to adopt EV-friendly requirements through building codes or other ordinances \u2013 joining Flagstaff, Sedona, Avondale, and Tucson.
