Plug In America has been working to advance EV policy and educate more members of Congress on the benefits of driving electric and electrifying the transportation sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our top priority is securing more co-sponsors for the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/116th-congress\/house-bill\/2256\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Driving America Forward Act<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which extends the federal EV tax credit to an additional 400,000 credits to be available for consumers per each automaker. You can check out the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/116th-congress\/house-bill\/2256\/cosponsors\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">current list of co-sponsors here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. If your representative is not yet a co-sponsor, we encourage you to reach out and tout the benefits of driving electric. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Representative Peter Welch (D-VT) also introduced the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/welch.house.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/merkley-welch-introduce-bicameral-legislation-extend-electric-vehicle\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Electric Cars Act<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to extend the EV tax credit for 10 years. In addition, Merkley and Representative Mike Levin (D-CA) introduced the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/116th-congress\/house-bill\/2764\/related-bills\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zero Emission Vehicle Act of 2019<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which would require that by 2030, 50% of sales of new passenger vehicles are zero emission, ramping up 5% each year after that to reach 100% of sales by 2040. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, the House Energy and Commerce Committee introduced the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/116th-congress\/house-bill\/2741\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leading Infrastructure for Tomorrow\u2019s America Act<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (HR 2471). As part of a larger bill, sections <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/116th-congress\/house-bill\/2741\/text#toc-H30AFD7D90893449C9C787C22B47D97D2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">34301<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/116th-congress\/house-bill\/2741\/text#toc-HFD041D77F9254B0A840C94895C7FA8B6\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">34307<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are specific to EVs. The bill would establish a national policy statement that would seek to promote greater electrification of the transportation sector. The bill would also develop a model building code for residential and commercial buildings to install EV charging equipment, allow for states to encourage their utilities to invest in the transportation electrification sector and deploy EV charging stations, and provide grants to states to develop State Energy Transportation Plans that seek to promote electric transportation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other EV bills we\u2019re working on include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/116th-congress\/house-bill\/2337\/text\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Federal Leadership in Energy Efficient Transportation (FLEET) Act of 2019<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (HR 2337), sponsored by Representative Jared Huffman (D-CA). The bill requires U.S. Postal Service (USPS) fleet to become cleaner over time. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/116th-congress\/senate-bill\/674\/text\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clean Corridors Act of 2019<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (S.674), sponsored by Senator Tom Carper (D-DE), that would provide grant funding for the installation of EV charging stations along designated corridors across the National Highway System.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spring has sprung and so has EV policy at the federal level in 2019.
